Properly Selecting The Right Engagement Rings / Diamonds

Getting the right engagement rings / diamonds is the proper thing to do before popping the big question. But how does the proposer know he is selecting the best choice for his soon-to-be fiancée?

Women anticipate to receive engagement rings / diamonds before they walk down the aisle of their wedding day. Getting engage is not a small deal for most females and males are left to shoulder the responsibility of finding the right ring to please their would-be-brides. But how do these proposers know they are picking out the best of the lot? Here are some points to consider in choosing the right ring.

The highlight of the proposal would be the diamond gem that determines how pleased your partner can get. And so, careful selection is the key to finding the four factors in C’s in picking the right diamond in the jewelry industry. It has been a smart practice to select the diamond first then the rest of the engagement ring to most selectors.

Diamonds should be considered in how they are cut. A cut is usually mistaken to be graded in the diamond shape, but this is a common mistake. Shapes in diamonds can be rounded, pear, heart, emerald, princess, and round brilliant. In engagement rings / diamonds, princess and round brilliant are common shapes but the cut grading is entirely different.

A cut refers to the perfect cutting of the actual gem stone to be able to give a “bling” factor to the diamond. A high grade cut means near-perfect symmetry of cutting the diamond in terms of its table or flat surface against the depth which is the length from the table to the tip. High grade cut means better bling or light performance which is how good the diamond reflects the amount of light that pass through it. Most jewelers use certain methods to grade the cut of diamonds but for the common buyer, to be safe, pick out the round brilliant shape to get the highest graded cut available.

Diamonds are closely graded by their clarity. Clarity is the factor that determines the flaws of a diamond. Flaws can be described as the blemishes and inclusions that a diamond surface has. Although these two imperfections cannot affect the bling of a diamond, it can make the grade lower. It is okay to purchase a diamond that has flaws as long as these flaws are not visible to the naked eye. The better the magnification of the diamond surface the most likely these flaws can be displayed. But picking out the diamond that does not show any blemished using the naked eyes is good enough.

Another C factor for diamonds is the color. High grade diamonds have a top rating of D-Z in descending order, meaning D is being the highest color grade. D grade color means almost colorless and clear like in description as grade Z color can border on going to yellowish brown. In picking out the right engagement rings / diamonds, choose the color grade between D-F types and partner the gem with a white gold or platinum to enhance its colorless hue.

But the biggest factor is the carat of the diamond – or the weight in a diamond mass scale called carat. The higher the carat grade, the higher is the quality of the diamond and it does not matter its size. Most engagement rings / diamonds fall between the 0.50-2.50 carat bracket and are good enough. Some women prefer size than quality while other appreciates quality over size. Whichever the case might be, the four factors should be weighed together to pick out the best diamond ring for your proposal of marriage.
