Fighting Couples – 5 Tips To Get You Back On Track …


Most people think that arguments, disagreements and outright fights are always a bad thing. Learn to see them as necessary evils to any relationship that can be used to clear the air. The fighting is not as important as the “making up” process. Learn to treasure the “making up” process as it has a tendency to help you reconnect and reconfirm your relationship to each other.

Here are 5 tips to help minimize the damage done from a fight or argument and help you get your relationship back on track.

1. You both go into “time out” to let your tempers cool.

Okay, it is back to kindergarten where you learned some of your most valuable lessons. When tempers flared between students, they were both put into “time out.” It works equally well for full-grown adults in relationships.

This cooling off period will allow both of you to get out of the battle zone before an all out war takes place. Giving each other some time and space will allow the both of you to see how silly it all really is and helps to keep it from escalating further. You both might get a new perspective on the situation.

2. Learn to forgive first.

If you plan to eventually forgive your man and not kick him to the curb, learn to forgive sooner rather than later. It makes no sense to hold a grudge, pouting, screaming and kicking only to later regret the whole incident. Lick your wounds, stop the battle and forgive as soon as possible. Now is the best time to get back on track rather than weeks or months from now when more damage is done.

3. Take responsibility for your part in the fight.

As you have heard before, it takes two to tango so stop blaming your man for everything. You do not always have to be “right,” so give up the notion and realize you are not. Admit that you both could be “right” and just looking at the situation from different views. You might want to take a good hard look at this one because you might both be “wrong.”

4. Learn to apologize for what you have done and learn from the experience.

You may have heard it before, but here it is again. “Love does really mean having to say you are sorry.” Learn to look at the situation to see how it could have been handled better, if it should ever arise again. If you said mean and nasty things in anger, then get past your ego and say you are sorry. Learn to watch your words more carefully next go round and not make the same mistake. Make it a habit to say what you mean and mean what you say without being mean about it.

5. So you overreacted.

So you had a knock down drag out. You pitched his golf clubs, clothes and underwear out on the street for the neighbors to see, not only that but you broke a few dishes and overturned the furniture. As bad as this sounds, it happens but that does not necessarily put an end to the relationship. Apologize meaningfully, admit you “overreacted” to say the least and make the “making up” something he will never forget. Most men will not admit it but sometimes the “making up” is so good, the fight was actually worth it but do not chance it as the next time may be “the end.”
